Even walked into the library at his new school and paused a moment in awe. It was enormous, and he could hear all of the books calling out to him, seeking his attention. Even wiped a tear away from his eye and picked up the first book he saw. It was only a matter of minutes until he had satisfied himself and that book and was on to the next one.

Valentine's heart had seemed to be ripped apart into tiny peices, his hands still shook as he had saw Vanyel fall into death. Their moment together had not lasted long to Valentine, /When I find the gifted that did that to him, I shall give her hell.\ His mind hissed over an over. Apatheticly pushing the door open to the library, Valentine kept his eyes everywhere but the area where he had first met Vanyel.
Walking up to the counter, Valentine tossed down his library card, "I want all the books you have on deaths,murders, and sucides." He murmered all emotion sucked from his lips. As the librarien turned away, Valentine laid his head down on the wood, letting out a silent sob. /What god has taken to killing me so painfully?! First Vanden, now Vanyel?\ "I'll never love again..." Valentine whispered to himself, as the librarien came back with a stack of books.

Even didn't notice the boy as he walked up to the counter and waited for the librarian's attention. When she finally turned to him, he said "How many books do you allow out at one time, and how do I get a library card to check them out?"

Subconcieously rubbing a band aide over his neck, Valentine glanced over at Even /He's new here also. Lucky him.\ His mind muttered, scanning over the covers of the books, Valentine flipped through the pages. "You can check out 4 books and you'll need to show stundent i.d to get a card." The librarien replied like she had memorized a script. Valentine looked up at her, "I want to check all of these." His voice was dull, "I'm sorry but you cant, only four." She restated. "Oh come on, you cant denie us if we want to read 10 books at once. " Valentine turned to Even, "Right?" He asked to see if the new student would agree, "You should be happy we want to read?" Valentine pressed towards the librarien.

Even couldn't help the smile that came to his lips. /Finally a fellow reader, and maybe even another Paper Master!\ Even turned to the other boy. "Hi, I'm Even. I'm Vanyel's younger brother. I heard he had been here? Did you know him? And are you a Paper Master too? That would explain to me why you want so many books." Even trailed off seeing the look in the other boys eyes.

Valentine felt a cold sensation slap him in the face,''Vanyels younger brother?'' he mumured blankly. ''No you cant be Vanyel never said he had sibleings. But I suppose your here for the funerl??'' saddness filled his voice and Valentine lost his interest in the arguments of the lady. ''My names Valentine and I`m sorry to say Even that I am mere illusionist who loves to read.''

"V-vanyel's f-funeral?" Even stammered dropping his books and all interest of reading. The books even quited sensing his emotions. "No, you must be mistaken, Vanyel was sent to another school, one for Bards. He's going to get special training for his gift!" Even was near hysteria and wasn't sure what was going on, but this Valentine seemed to know.

Valentine went still, “You mean you didnt know?” he said appalled. Breaking off into a string of curses Valentine looked over Even, “Vanyel was murdered by another gifted about two days ago.” Valentines voice broke into depression, ''I saw him die right before my eyes.''

Even backed up a step shaking his head slowly. /No, this couldn't be happening, not Vaneyl, not his big brother! Vanyel could sing his way out of ANYTHING!! Even had seen him do it!!\ The nearest books started shredding themselves in response to his distress but all Even could do was stand there shaking his head.

Valentine felt tears pushing at his eyes, but he shoved them away knowing it was not the time, "I am so sorry you had to find out this way.."He whispered ashamed of himself, "I thought...I thought you knew, I thought that was why you were here?" Glancing over at the books ripping themselves apart, Valentine stepped closer to Even and warpped his arms around him in a comfort, "I cant belive you didnt know." Valentine murmered, "I'm guessing we're going to need to talk." He pulled away from Even and stared down at the floor.

Even couldn't hear, he knew on some level that the other boy was talking to him, but he couldn't hear what he was saying. The only thing Even could hear was a word that repeated itself in every type of voice imaginable. Dead, whispered, Dead, screamed, Dead, murmured, it went on and on and on top of that was the silent shrieking in his mind as the books around him tore themselves apart even more. Books threw themselves to the floor and loose sheets of paper ripped themselves up and fired at the nearest living thing, which happened to be Valentine, and making tiny paper cuts all along his clothes and skin where it was visible.

Valentine threw his arms up infront of him the cuts ripping up his arms, and shirt, "Hey.." He said calmly, still trying to block the paper shards, "Hey!" He shouted to Even, "Come on, control yourself!" The librarien had rushed out to find a teacher, "We have to get out of here and talk!" Valentine shouted again, "She'll bring back a teacher and you'll have more to worry about than the past." He stared at Even, all the pain Valentine had felt washed away and he knew that it was ridculus for him to feel pain when he had hardly known Vanyel.

Even finally got himself together and looked up into Valentine's eyes. Slowly meaning was forcing its way back into his head and the paper flying around the room slowly drifted to the floor. Even focused and watched in a muted satisfaction as the papers and books put themselves back together and back on the shelves. It was then that he realized that the other boy was bleeding. "I'm sorry..." Even said quietly. "It's just that, Van was the only person who understood me... We were the only two in our whole family who was gifted, and he made me feel like i was special. Our parents didnt-couldn't- understand... We made our way together, and then the Bard showed up and took him away from me. I did everything I could to get sent here and it finally paid off... I just wanted to see my big brother again..." Even trailed off and tried to keep a tight control on his emotions. Then he helped Valentine stand and said "Where should I take you to get cleaned up?"

Valentine looked down at his arms, and smeared the blood away, "I'm fine, seems that causeing pain runs in your family." Valentine laughed half heartedly. "But we do need to go somewhere before miss book worm turns up with a staff member." He leaned over the counter, and grabbed three of the books she had gotten for him, and also took a pen. "Ok then, Even was it? Lets get going before she gets back, and my paper cuts start to burn." Valentine turned, clutching the books and began to walk towards the exit.

Even followed wondering at the comment about causing pain running in his family. "What did you mean Valentine?" He asked as he caught up to the older boy. "How did you know my older brother? Were you his lover?"
