A note in advance: I know the character's power is immense, on the very edge of godmode. However, I don't intend for him to encounter any physical obstacles in the course of RP; instead, I intend to have his challenges be mental and emotional over the course of nonviolent, peace-based RP.
Name: Marcus Flint
Nicknames: None
Aliases: The Cosmic Man
Age: 37
Marital Status: Widower
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Weight: 63 lbs.
Height: 6'3''
Eyes: Completely blue, even in the 'Whites,' and photo-luminescent.
Hair: None.
Clothing: A containment suit that keeps the heavy radiation his body emits from leaking out. It is streamlined and made completely of lead, heavy enough that he has to constantly use his power just to be strong enough to move it. Despite its heavy weight and thick plating, the suit appears streamlined and even makes his musculature look like that of a normal human being. The one spot that you can see the facade from his his two-way visor, which shows his almost skeleton-thin frame for what it is.
Powers: Long story short, his power is control and creation of cosmic energy. This energy allows him to raise his strength, speed, agility and the hardness of his skin at will. Additionally, he is able to create invisible fields of non-lethal cosmic energy to move objects through the air seemingly of their own accord. He is able to create force blasts of brightly glowing cosmic energy to deal devastating attacks, each of which are able to melt straight through several feet of reinforced titanium in a single shot. He is capable of perceiving his surroundings by sensing the subtle, insignificant changes that movement puts in the fabric of the cosmos, giving him a literal 360 degree view of the area around, above and below him. He is also capable of flight riding the waves of cosmic energy that are invisibly present everywhere at incredible speeds. He is also completely self-contained, not needing to eat, drink, breathe or sleep since he is sustained by the cosmic energy that courses through him. Because he deals with radiation and cosmic energy, he can withstand extreme heat and extreme cold alike, and electric currents have little affect on him.
Weakness: Because of its nature, the power of cosmic energy is immune to regular nullifying affects. However, using an energy drain power on him will sap his cosmic strength completely, leaving him unable to move and in critical condition for the better part of a day, even running a high risk of death via the radiation poisoning that he would no longer be able to survive.
Power related issues: The ability to harness cosmic energy and even morseo the ability to create it have caused Marcus' body to become highly radioactive. He cannot stay in one place for too long even in his containment suit without risking making the area he's in becoming highly, dangerously radioactive. He cannot stay around any one living being even through his containment suit for more then a few hours a day or the level of radiation he unwittingly exposes them to becomes dangerous. Without the containment suit, anything solid he touches instantly becomes radioactive. Water sources he touches anywhere become instantly spoiled with radioactive contamination and food that he touches even by means of a cooking utensil becomes radioactive enough that it is dangerous to eat - a fact which quickly ended his profession in the culinary career track.
Personality: Angst. A lot of angst. Where he was once a cheerful socialite, he is now filled with little other then guilt and self-pity. He longs for the life he once knew to return to him, wishing that he hadn't gone out walking that one fateful night. As much as he wants to have a real friend, he is afraid to get close to anybody for fear of permanently damaging or even killing them.
History: Marcus Flint was a guy with a set life. He was a professional chef who was on all the greatest cooking shows, married to one of the most beautiful women on the planet and the proud soon-to-be father expecting a son by the age of 25. He was one of the few people in the world that could honestly say they were genuinely happy, and if he had died the very next day he would have no regrets about his life.
That would all change in the course of a single night. Taking a midnight stroll as he often did after dark, Marcus saw a shooting star streaking across the sky. He was positive that the star changed course as it passed over him, blasting down toward the planet. It came closer, closer... and then he could tell it was headed straight for him. When he tried to run, the star changed course again, running parallel to the ground to chase after him. It impacted him harshly, knocking the wind from him and throwing him to the ground. When he got up to look around from the unsettling experience, he found no traces of what the shooting star had been. He went home to his pregnant wife immediately and went to bed, quickly drifting off to sleep.
He woke up next to a corpse.
He didn't even recognise the body as that of his wife, so decayed it was from the intense blasts of radiation. When he did realise who it was, he grew into a fit of screams. He discovered his grotesque appearance shortly after, literally skeleton thin. His skin and eyes had become completely blue, and both were now capable of producing their own light. He also discovered that he could create force blasts of cosmic energy when he destroyed the mirror he was looking in out of despair. He tried to run, but in his haste accidentally began to fly. When he hastily figured out the mechanics of that flight, he blasted through the skyline of his house, taking note that he was not cut by the shattering glass as he passed through.
Marcus kept on flying for a seemingly endless time. It wasn't until he calmed down and faced facts that he realised he had left Earth's solar system completely. He didn't dare move now, in the unknown reaches of the depths of space. Instead, he took time to familiarise himself with his new self, realising that suicide wasn't an option now that he was nearly invincible and that returning to earth was something he eventually wouldn't be able to resist doing. He didn't know how, but along with all the power he gained was a wealth of knowledge about cosmic energy and atomic particles, capable of sensing them and recognising them by their structure through their signature echos in the space-time continuum. He realised that his mind had been opened to mysteries and capabilities that the average man could never even dream of, but all of that knowledge, all that power... he would have traded it in a second to get his old life back or even to feel the dark release of death come over him.
He immediately began sensing the cosmic energy that signified life coming from the direction to his immediate left. It was the only such signal he could find for several hundred thousand light hears, and so he instantly knew that this was the direction his home world was in. He headed back, encountering many interesting anomalies in space as he went. He decided that since he wasn't ready to face the pain of his earthbound life yet, he did what no man had ever done before: He took a complete tour of the solar system. He visited every planet from Mercury to Pluto and stood upon each of their surfaces and moons. He spent years learning about them from experience rather then from books and theory. Several years later, Marcus decided it was time to face his past and return to Earth.
Recognising the radiation that emitted from his body for what it was at this point, Marcus knew he could never return to Earth the way he was. He searched the Solar System and the space surrounding it for a meteorite or asteroid with a high density of lead atoms. When he found that asteroid, he used his cosmic energy to siphon those atoms out and form them into a suit that he could use to block the radiation. He never actually put it on; instead, he formed the suit around himself as a one-piece unit that was completely sealed off from the outside environment. Finally ready to resume his life, the Cosmic Man returned to the surface of Planet Earth.
Immediately he went to work, publishing textbooks and theory papers on the topics of astrology and radiology. So impressed was the scientific community with his work that he won himself an honorary doctorate in Astrology and an honorary masters' in radiology from some of the most prestigious schools in the world. Among those schools was Cassis; the difference was that Cassis had found out about Marcus' curse as well as his abilities in science. They sent him a letter asking him to come and teach astrology at the school, which he gladly accepted, thinking that perhaps he could rebuild his broken life and even help some people while he was there.
However, to this day Marcus continues to believe deep down that he will never be able to have the relationships necessary to rebuild his life and will never be able to really help anybody else, what with the fact that he can hardly even help himself.
