Killian ducked his head under a low-hanging branch as he tenderly stepped over protruding tree roots, attempting not to trip. Exhaling deeply, he stretched his arms back and tilted his head towards the familiar white bird, who whistled softly. The bird had been acting very strange lately, it was much more... Unenergetic. It drooped its head and wings, and flew slowly. Usually the sings that something bad was going to happen. The fact that it was dark wasn't much better either.
The bird hopped onto Killian's shoulder and ruffled his feathers, tickling Killian's cheek in the process. Softly, Killian nudged the bird off of his shoulder and then stuffed his hands into his pockets. It was a cold night. Another bad sign. It's not like Killian is superstitious or anything... But he felt a little nervous tonight. His little white bird was good at predicting things, and the way he was acting wasn't a good sign. What is it with all the signs?
Maybe Killian was finally losing his mind. All those years alone with only birds for company. But wait, he never really was alone. There were always people around him. They tried to interact with him. They attempted to show him comfort. But he only pushed them away. Why had he done that? What would he be like if he had only let people in? All his life... Sitting alone whistling at different birds... Had the birds been the reason he is the way he is now? No. It was Killian's own fault for pushing everyone away.
"Ouch!" Killian shouted and rubbed furiously at his right temple and glaring at the little white bird, who had just flew harshly into the side of his head like a mini rocket. Lowering his hand and glowering at the bird, he sighed.
"So. I'm starting to believe that this is pretty much your fault." He said. The white bird chirped angrily at him, then flew off to the side and out of Killian's view. Once again, the bird came out of nowhere and rammed into the side of his head. Waving his hand at the bird in annoyance, he whistled. Immediantly a large owl flew from the treetops, scaring the white bird.
"You deserved that." He muttered, then watched as the owl flew slowly onto the lower branch of a nearby tree, its large amber eyes resting on Killian.
"Not you too." Killian muttered angrily, walking away from the owl and deeper into the forest.
