What is it?

"Yes, and no. You're right on somethings and wrong on others," Frigg explained. "You see, the spirit is normally protected by the body, but if the body becomes broken, the spirit is no longer protected. When the body won't work any more, then the spirit cannot use it. The spirit leaves the body because the body will not fulfill the spirit's needs any more. The body can be broken by many things. Sometimes, it just wears it's self out, but sometimes, other people break the body. There are parts that the body needs to work for the whole body to work, like the heart and the brain. When those become too broken, the spirit cannot use the body any more. The spirit never thinks that the body is worthless. The spirit is very sad when it's body doesn't work any more, but if the spirit cannot use the body, it cannot stay in it."

Pausing, Frigg realized just how much she was explaining to this boy. She hoped she was helping him understand something that was so important to her. "Spirits can go many places. Sometimes, they can try to go into another body that still works, but that body has another spirit in it. So, the new spirit cannot stay there. It leaves again, and tries to find another body."

He looked at her, realizing that his body held worth. But did other spirits like his parents spirits consider his spirit worthless? It seemed so.

"I think I get it....but where does the other body come from? If only dead bodies are left, and they are...broken, where are these new bodies? And how people break a body? Is it like..." he remembered broken bones. "Broken bones? What is the heart? And what's the brain?" He also doesn't have any conecepts of the muscles of the body. "If these are......something the spirit needs, when they are broekn, they become too bruised? Too twisted? How do they become broken? Why do others break them? Because they consider that spirit worthless?" He was starting to learn to grasp concepts with concepts he already knew. Perhaps he could use this idea for other thigns he did not know.

[Katsumi]

Frigg nodded as her companion realized these things and got a better grasp of them. "You see, the heart is a special part of the body. It's deep inside the chest, and it pumps blood to all the parts of the body. The brain is especially important to the spirit, because the brain lets the spirit control the body. They can be hurt in a lot of ways. There are too many to explain. Sometimes, other people break them by accident, but sometimes... other people's spirits become mad at another person's spirit. They don't always agree, or think the same things... So it makes one spirit think that the other spirit shouldn't be alive anymore."

And now, for the age old question: where do these other bodies come from? "The other bodies that the spirits can get into are the bodies of people who are still alive. Because they're still alive, their bodies still work. Spirits can only go back into dead bodies if some one uses magic to make it happen. Not many people can use that magic though..."

He listened carefully and figured his parents could have made ihm dead if they wanted. He still couldn't quite understand why spirits wanted other spirits alive. "But why? Couldn't either spriit haev been in another body? Couldn't the sprit who wants the other dead been in the other's body.

It doesn't....it doesn't seem to have any answer. And if a body's alive, wouldn't another spirit have already taken it? How are extra bodies made? Where do they come from?" He said still not understanding these two concepts. Magic....well, he din't care about that right now.

"The creation of extra bodies is a long and difficult process. You see, when two people choose to engage in sexual intercourse, they run the risk of the female half becoming pregnant. When that happens, a new body is formed inside an old body. So, two living bodies come together to make an extra living body, and a new spirit is place in that body. Some people think that old spirits, whose bodies have already died, are placed in new bodies, but that's not true. New souls are created for new bodies. Once a spirit is in a body, it is there until that body dies. A spirit easily could have been placed in a different body, but once it has it's own body, that is the only body it cares about. So, when a new body is formed inside a mother's body, a brand new spirit is placed in that body. It doesn't think about the bodies it could have had. It cares about the body is has. When it grows older, if it doesn't like another spirit, sometimes it will try to take away what that spirit cares about: it's body. That is why some spirits try to kill others: because they don't care about any one's bodies but their own."

Frigg took a deep breath after that long explanation. She had never been embarrassed by mentioning sex or the process by which one has sex. It was a natural part of life, similar to death. There was nothing to be ashamed of when it came to such things. She mentioned it as she needed to, and she moved on.

[Seaheart]

Mezzidok looka at her. "What is...sexual intercourse? What's pregnant?" Even if he knew these things, he wouldn't be ashamed of them. He hardly knew what they were, but now thta he knew the process of how a soul was created, he saw it must have been very.....good. "So....it sometimes looks for a reason to kill other spirits? To take the body away so the spirit stays here, looking for a new body? Why? Why would one spirit take away a body from a different spirit?" He understod it might happen, but he wanted reason for it. Why?

[Katsumi]

Frigg had to think. How could she explain this without being considered a sexual deviant? Well, this would at least be interesting. "Okay, sexual intercourse is usually called 'sex,' because that's short. Sex takes place between a male, like you, and a female, like me. Usually, people who have sex are married, which means that they'll only have sex with the same person no matter what, but some times, people have sex with many different people. It takes two people to have sex: like I said before, one boy and one girl. You should know that boys have something in between their two legs that is called a thingy. Well, a girl doesn't have a thingy. A girl has a hole there, and it's called a thingy. So, when two people decide to have sex, the boy puts his thingy inside the girls thingy. This feels very good, and if the boy lets his special substance, called semen, go into the girl, his semen will connect with the girl's egg. It's like when you put a seed in the ground: a flower grows. Well, when you put semen in a girl, a baby grows. 'Baby' is just a word for a new body."

Pausing and pleased with her explanation, Frigg heaved a sigh. "When a girl has a baby inside of her, she is called 'pregnant.' When the baby comes out of her, she isn't pregnant any more. Now, there is a new body with a new soul in the world." So, that was the end of that. Now, "Spirits only care about themselves. They don't care if other spirits have bodies. A spirit only cares about themselves and their bodies. That's all, so they don't care if any other spirit looses their body. That's why they take them away: because they don't care."

He looked at her, listening carefully, understanding in a sense...and learning. He nodded. "So souls die when the body is broken, and it may or may not leave this..world? And when a baby is born, a soul inhabits that baby, and there is a new body?" He said repeating what she said, just to make sure. "Is there anything else about souls? They seem to be very important...." A new question came to mind, and osmethign strange made him feel he could relate to it. "Is it possible for two souls to be ine one body?" He said ears and eyes perking up a bit, at such a question. He figured after what he had been told, it seemed impossible.

[Katsumi]

Frigg shook her head. "Souls never die. Only the body dies. The soul is still alive, but it must leave the body. It has the choice to leave this world and go some where else; I don't know about that place because I have never been there. The soul may also stay on this world. It cannot have it's own body ever again. Instead, new souls just keep coming when people keep having sex and making new babies. That's all there is to know about how souls come to the world, and how they leave."

Frigg sighed, feeling almost as if she was explaining everything twice. "And, normally, it is very impossible for their to be two souls in one body, but if some one has a very special ability, then their body can have more than one soul in it at a time. There aren't many people who can do that though. I'm one of the people who can have more than one soul in my body at once. But, only one soul can be in control, and it cannot stay very long. So, some bodies can hold more than one soul, but they can only hold them for a short period of time, and only one soul controls the body. Do you understand?"

[Seaheart]

He wondered if he had two souls. It was crazy to think, but he didn't hold much of a concept of crazy anyways. He figured perhaps if he looked inside himself, he could see his soul. He closed his eyes focusing, thinkabout his soul, and all that he learned. He should look for another soul. He looked deep, thinkabout special people. When he saw something, jaws snapped, claws scarred, and Mezzidok opened hsi eyes with a scream. He fell backwards, shriveled up, scared, not understanding. His eyes were slits, scared, and he aksed quietly "What...what am I?" He said the slits pointed to Frigg, filled with fear and confusion. He had asked this before, when he thought about his town.

[Katsumi]

Frigg stood, watching Mezzidok with a calm face, and she offered a hand to him. "That is not for me to answer," she said, her voice confident. She held no fear for him; she had grown up seeing far worse. Instead, she saw him for what he was: some one who needed help, who needed to learn, and who needed to discover himself. She knew that he was far from normal, but she was not the right one to decided who or what he was. It was no one's job but his own, and that was something he had to realize.

"Sometimes, it is better not to know 'what' we are. Sometimes, it is best to go on, knowing what we are told... But, sometimes, you can only find strength in knowing yourself, because only the strong can handle that truth... It sounds silly, I know, but you are at your strongest when you know yourself. No one else can tell you what you are, because they will always be wrong." The depth in her voice gave her a sense of wisdom beyond her years. This was what she got for having trained so long with a woman over the age of sixty.

[Seaheart]

He looked at her and asked a question. "What's strong? What's strength? How can I see or be myself when I have something else....that's.....trying to break my body. Or....it seems to want to break my soul. How can I discover...see what I am when it tries to break me!" He said tears coming down his eyes, feeling like he did the day his town was mist. He was scared, unsure, confused, questioning, and felt he was gonna die. Why, why, who, who? Ir kept echoign through his mind? Why was this happening? Why was it trying to kill him? Whjo was he? Who was trying to break his soul? He felt these were questions he didn't want answered.

[Katsumi]

Frigg still offered her hand to him, and it was as if she was offering her own strength to help him. "Strong... means that you can overcome anything. If your body is strong, then you can break other things, other bodies. But, if your soul in strong, then you can face what you are. You become strong when you can face that thing inside of you, and when you can break it. You can't allow it to break you. You are strong when you can control it, when you can face it, and when you can destroy it."

Her eyes, despite their eerie coloring, were sympathetic. This was a curious case for her. She'd never encountered any one who seemed to have something else inside them. But, she'd never really dealt with any other type of power besides necromancy. Now, she wasn't sure of what to do or how to handle this, but she could take it as she took every thing else. She wouldn't show how unsure she was to this person: no, she would be secure, and hope for it to work.

He looked at her, still afraid. He listened to her and had a question. "Is there a....possible way to also use my other soul? What if my soul is almost broken? Could I replace it?" After hearing how fragile souls were, he wanted to know if there were ways he could save it. He was going to be cautious, and after hearing his other options, he wanted to know more. He still stood huddled, then reached for her hand to get up, but when he touched it, it turned to mist, and he screamed, scrambling up, running tripping, but kept going, his mouth wide open in scream (His eyes look like XANA's sign from Code Lyoko so I don't know how to describe them.) His intricate designed eyes glazed with fear, memories returning. Why him? Was it his other soul? What? Was his soul trying to break bodies. Why? Why?! He screamed running for no particular place.

[Katsumi]

Frigg felt his touch on her hand, and then... nothing. She looked down as she heard him scream. Her eyes widened as she looked down and her hand wasn't there. There was nothing. She opened her mouth to scream, but nothing came out. What had he done to her? Where was her hand? Her eyes pushed shut, and she finally found words. "What... what have you done!? What did you do to me! Fix it! Fix me! Get back here!" Thrusting her existing hand into the air, up rose the skeleton that she had brought to life just a bit earlier. As it stood before her, she thrust her hand into it's back and it's jaw fell open. As Frigg's hand manipulated the skeleton remotely, it chased after Mezzidok. Because of it's lack of basic human parts, it was much lighter and could move much faster. With Frigg's rage and fear fueling it, the bony fingers caught up to Mezzidok easily and reached out, trying to catch him and bring him back. In the distance, Frigg could be heard, screaming, "What have you done!? Get back here and fix this!"
