Jarrod came up above the lake's water with a smile on his face, one that broke into a fully-fledged toothy grin as he came up to the air-filled surface. Wiping his face down with a wet hand to get the water off of it (How was that supposed to work again?), he shook his hair free of water and began heading back toward the shallows. He stood on the ground, now only waist-deep in the water. His frame, although light, was revealed to be fairly well built, streamlined and athletic rather then bulky and strong. The smiling teen kept on splashing about, having the time of his life in the middle of the lake all by himself. 'This place really is awesome,' he thought as he dunked himself back under, scanning the floor of the lake for anything that might be worth grabbing. All he found were a few smoothed-out rocks; nothing exactly worth value. Still, he came back up with a fist-full of them to examine them on the dry land just for good measure.

Strong, yet gentle strokes moved Mayanalea's light-weighing figure throught the water. She hadn't yet broke surface, and was planning on it. It felt good to just be in an entirely different world, and for a second, to have the scorching sun off of your back. The water was cool, but not umbearabley cool...Just right. Maya, though, could not, like most, swim with her eyes opened. Whether she could or not, being in the middle of the lake was too dark to see, regardless of that. Out of no where, Maya had swam into something that was rather solid. It knocked her back, and her concentration slipped, causing her to quickly surface, taking a deep breath, removing the hair that was seemingly stuck to her face...All the while, tredding the water so not to sink... After struggling to stay up, and regain vision, a man came into view...So that's what I bumped into.... Her tredding slowly transformed into a back stroke... She didn't say anything to the stranger, and just eyed him as she stroked back further away from him. She wasn't necassarily fleeing, just..Backing away. Silence was, as they say, golden.

Jarrod was shocked when something bumped into him. At first he thought it was some kind of enormous fish or worse, some freak-of-nature freshwater shark, but his wild imagination was quickly caught up with by his logic and reasoning. Whatever had hit him had hair, a full head of it from the feel of its impact against his bare back. Dropping the rocks in his hands as he lurched forward slightly from the impact, he turned about with a look of incredulous curiosity on his face. What manner of creature had bumped into hi-
Human. It was a simple and instant realisation as he turned about to look at her, treading water as she began backing away from him. He tilted his head to the side as he looked at her curiously. Not even a word of apology? That was fine, though; she looked incredibly shy, based on the posture that she was holding herself in. He smiled in his almost signature friendly way, resisting the urge to chuckle at the apparently timid nature of this girl he was starting to find almost comical. "Heya," he called to her.

Maya nearly smiled as the guy turned around, the curious expression on his face. He was quite handsome if she had to say so herself...But no, she wouldn't even began to contemplate looks, because thinking of looks led to thinking of the person in a different way other than just friends...She didn't want to do that to Arkady, although strangely they didn't carry the title 'Boy friend girlfriend'. Just good friends, that's all... As he smiled, she smiled back out of habit, showing off her pearly whites.
A hand, for a split second lifted out of the water, waving at him. She wasn't shy, she just was unsure of how the person would re-act to her bumping into him...Most people would be all 'watch where you're going!!'. It'd be alot easier if she were dealing with a girl, but she wasn't...She was dealing with a guy. That was all the more embarrassing rather than if it were a girl.

Jarrod nodded to her as she waved at him, his right arm coming up in a waving flourish to accent the motion. He was still smiling as he sighed slightly. The girl was pretty, there was no denying it, but she looked young - at least three years younger then himself, if not a bit more. He mentally shrugged, not immitating the movement with his body as he decided that it didn't matter anyway. Jarrod took a moment to get his manners and wits back about him. "I'm Jarrod, by the way, Jarrod Sparks. You can call me Sparky, though, if you'd like. Easier to remember." He didn't know why people that were bad with names couldn't remember Jarrod, but somehow managed to keep sparky in mind. Neither name was hard. Perhaps Sparky was just a catchier word? 'Who cares.' He focused his attention back on the present and the conversation he was currently in.

She continued to smile as he waved at her. He looked abit older...But not old old as in twenty years older, but a few years...Hah. What if she suddenly decided to allow age to play a factor in her and Arkady's feelings? They would never have seen the likings of eachother. But thinking about it, she was glad that Arkady didn't keep her at arms length..That's pretty far... Just seconds passed after Jarrod introduced himself, and only the toes of Maya could be seen.
She had dove into the water. Uhm. Okay. Where was she? Maya knew that it had to seem kind of odd on Jarrod's part that a person he just met just suddenly vanishes underwater. Awkward to say the least. But with graceful quick un-heard strokes, Maya had reached the area in which she figured Jarrod was standing.
Sumbmerging, Maya's feet were planted firmly on the ground, as she'd reached the shallow end, running a hand over her face. She then looked at Jarrod and smiled, "Hi, Jarrod, I'm Mayanalea Saloon..Please, call me Maya for short," she said with a slight laugh.

Jarrod stood there for an uncomfortably long number of seconds, not knowing what to think. That was odd, the way she'd decided to dissappear under water, then come back up in the shallows. It was kind of awkard to watch her rise from ankle length to her full height within talking distance of him. Finally, he decided what he should be thinking. 'What the crap?' he silently asked himself. He visibly shook his head, not enough to sprinkle Maya with water from his dripping-wet hair, but rather a soft and subtle movement to force his wandering mind from within his thoughts and into the moment. He'd been having trouble focusing ever since coming to Cass- 'Stop it!' he thought before he even got started on another unrelated train of thought again.
He turned his full attention to the girl. She was an interesting one, he could tell just by looking at her. She was shorter then him, but only by a few inches. Actually, it was about a half of a foot, and he had to look down to catch her straight in the eyes. Finally recovering from the akward surprise of the dive-and-move, Jarrod put his friendly smile back on. "Nice to meet you," he said. "I take it you're just coming out for a swim as well?" he asked.

Maya looked up at him...Why the heck is everyone taller than me?!? Gosh! I thought growth spurts helped you, not get your hopes up and drop them back down when you see everyone else cranning their necks down to look at you.. Lost in thought, Maya quickly caught herself, "Oh! Ha. yeah, nice to meet you as well." She locked eyes with his, a firm believer in eye-contact...That is, unless she's lying or something. Awh! They were gorgeous, and the sun was showing greatly off of them..."Yea, I just came out for a swim...Didn't know I was going to meet someone new." She grinned.

Jarrod smiled as he noticed for the first time. 'She has the most interesting eyes I think I've ever seen!' he mentally exclaimed. Violet! Not blue or green or anything normal - aka dull - like that, but Violet! His smile grew and the look of focus on his face grew a bit as he registered the brilliant color, wondering how he hadn't noticed immediately. It had always been the eyes that were Jarrod's biggest concern when he was out 'Witch Hunting,' as the guys at the orphinage used to call it, but he wasn't here to do any such thing - neither had he been since the first day he'd come to Cassis, or since he'd been about 15 for that matter.
He was oogling.
"Aie, er," he muttered, fumbling to recover from that realisation. He hated it when he did that. He put a hand on the back of his neck, rubbing it as he embarrasedly looked down into the waist-high water. He looked back up to her casually, trying to act as though he hadn't just been staring at her with perhaps too much interest. "Your eyes," he commented, realising that playing it cool wasn't an option any longer, "They're... Purple." He said it in a way that didn't make him sound accusing or like he was pointing out some abnormality. Quite the opposite, his tone of voice made it clear that he was very impressed.

She noted that as soon as she had made eye contact with him, that he was in some sort of trance, or as she commonly was; Lost in thought. It was okay though, she could relate to him. But something about her held his intrest, and it held him tight, for he was speechless for a few good seconds. am I that interesting? This thought allowed Maya's smile to stay on her face. An finally, the awkward silence was broken...Broken with his stumbling for words.
As Jarrod finally pointed out what had captivated his attetion, Maya smiled, laughing abit. All along it was her eyes? "My eyes? Oh, yes..they are purple, aren't they?" Maya asked as though she hadn't really recognized that lateley.(Which she hadn't) "Thanks?" Maya paused, her eyes transferring to the side, and then back up at Jarrod...Well, not directly at him, just sort of driftin away from him...Now that he'd taken some sort of interest in her, she didn't want to get too drawn in to his attractive features...
"Oh, and you're eyes, I like them, They're normal, they're hazel...Most everyone around Cassis has off-the wall colored eyes."

He noticed her backing away. 'Oh. Crap,' he thought. Had mentioning her eyes wierded her out? He didn't want to make her feel akward on his account. He nodded in acknowledgement of her words; it was no surprise that she had noticed his eyes while he was busy getting lost in hers. It wasn't like him to do that. He didn't show this must interest at just a passing glance - he just didn't. That wasn't the way he rolled.
He chuckled a bit, more embarrassed then ammused, and put his hand up to the back of his neck again. "Thanks," he said, still with a smile on his face, "And sorry. I bet that was akward." He sighed, the exhalation ending in another embarrased chuckle. Not only had he been caught oogling, but apparently the person he was oogling didn't really take that information lightly or readily. "And... I really hadn't noticed, to tell you the truth," he continued. "The painted eye colors, I mean. I hadn't noticed it until just now."
He was doing it again.
"Er," he mumbled as he forced himself to look away. 'Sorry,' he thought.

Maya oddly stepped forward as he began to speak. Uhm...her feet were moving, but her mind wasn't...Ack!! Maya! Dont go being to assetive, straightforward, or outgoing! Just. Stop. Moving!. Ah ha. Too late. She had already got so close to him as to where there was only about a foot and a half between the two of them.
"The painted eye colors, I mean-"
Maya had placed one delicate hand on his shoulder, and one finger to his smooth lips. "Shhh...You talk too much." She smiled, the finger and hand dropping. What. The. Crap? Okay, seriously..What had this guidence counselor done to her? In the past, she would have never done that...Heck, she probably would've admired him from afar, and tried to make no contact with him... She would've kissed him, but she ididn't know him. Hah, she was beginning to like this new Maya. The new confident Maya. That was something to smile about on it's own.

He didn't tilt his head to the side, step back or make any movements at all save for his eyes going incredulously wide. 'Unexpected.' That was the only thought going through his head... Other then how close Maya had just come to him, that she had he hand on his shoulder and another on his lips. Not that he was about to complain, that was the last thing he was going to do, but still, he couldn't deny that what she'd just done was a tad odd.
Her words only registered just then. He talked too much? Where'd that one come from? They'd been talking for maybe a minute. 'Of course,' Jarrod thought, realising what she was doing. His confused face broke out into a closed-eyed, tooth-showing grin as he threw his head back and chuckled. "Sorry," he said as he put a hand on her slender waist, stepping in toward her. He looked her straight in the eyes. "I wasn't laughing at you; it's me. I've always been too-much talk," he explained. 'You're doing it again,' he told himself despite his outward smile. She was attractive and he knew it. He was guessing that she knew it too, after the move she'd just put on him. 'Only a matter of time until one of us did,' he supposed.

Maya quirked a curious brow as he threw his head back in laughter, Oh wow..Is there soemthing on my face? The urge to lift a hand and run it over her fac to check for something was oh so strong. The urge to do her whole 'Oh my gosh!! What is it? Where? What?' routine was too strong...Just as she couldn't stand the suspense which inly had lasted for about a ten seconds, he looked back down at her, explaining that it was her that he had been laughing at. Phew! I thought a piece of seaweed or soemthing might have been stuck on my face...Or in my hair. Then, she felt a hand placed on her waist. It was then her heart beat sped up...Was he thinking what she was thinking? If so, she would follow his lead, hardley ever the one to make the first move....
