Laodice walked out onto the sands of the solitary lake. Looking out at the waters, he could feel strange emotions motivated, not by his own experiences, but by another's. He opened his journal and read his fourth and fifth entries. He felt that this was where he needed to be. Putting his hand in his pocket, he ran his fingers along the intricate golden edges of the object within. Taking it out of his pocket, he held it up to the sun. The light shone through a perfectly spherical glass ball, making two figures inside stand out, the figures of a boy and a girl. Laodice wished he could bring them to life and ask them what it was he was supposed to be doing.
He remembered back to the dreams he had had. It seemed they were all leading him here to this lake. He removed his shoes and walked a little bit into the water. It was cool and calm at this time. He put the object back in his pocket, not wanting to drop it into the water. He closed his eyes and thought back to the dream he had had, bringing back the image of the silhouetted boy telling Laodice to "find her." Laodice turned around to face the school. He didn't know who "her" was, but he was determined to find out. He didn't know why, but he felt it was part of his intricate destiny.

Since Maya had been here, she had yet to come incontact with it's nature. From the windows of the school, the nature had been beautiful, and Maya, today, actually found herself longing for the chance to go and be one with it. She had heard that the lake was worth ten thousand visits. She had heard that it was a place of tranquility and serinity. So, Maya set off to find out for herself. Clarity, peace, and serinity was exactly what she needed; a break from being couped up inside a school for such long hours did her no good what-so-ever.
Her footsteps were light, causing soft synchranized pats amongst the soft Earth. Her brown locks glistened under the warm sun, tumbling down her back as though they were waterfalls. May's violet orbs had stayed to the ground, observing every little twig, leaf, and blade of emerald green grass. Yes, the serinity was setting in. Then, her gaze diverted up as she reached the area of the lake. It's surface dazzled underneath the sun, a precious view. But what caught her eye most was a person, standing in the lake? Maya stopped at first, for he had been facing her way, and she looked bck, seeing no one. She persued forth anyhow, and eventually ended up at the edge of the lake, not even ten feet away from the boy.

Laodice looked at the girl who had wordlessly approached the lake. Could this be her? He decided it was time to find out. "Hello," he said to the stranger, "how are you? I'm Laodice." He smiled, though he wasn't sure she was looking at him. He took one step deeper into the water. Being in contact with the lake was like touching his future and another's past. He looked back over at the girl. "Do you like the lake?" He had to find out whether or not she was the one he was looking for without really asking. But what could he ask? He had nothing to go by but a knickknack in his pocket and an unidentified figure in the darkness telling him to "find her." Laodice looked at the girls face. No feeling seemed to come, so he assumed this was not the girl he was looking for. He turned back to the lake and looked at the bright shining waves glistening in the morning sun.

Maya could just make out a smile on the guy's-Laodice's face, so she returned the gesture. He had asked did she like the lake. Well, she had just gotten here and witnessed its' beauty for the first time, and was oustounded, so yes, she did like the lake. So, seeing this newly met aqauintence, Maya decided to get closer, and to feel the lake herself since he seemed to have been enjoying it so much.
Slipping off her shoes, Maya gracefully stepped into the lake. It was cool, and it sent a chilling tingle up her spine. The pool water never gave her this feeling...Perhaps it was because it was natural? Well, Maya hadn't time to wonder about such things if she was to properly introduce herself. Maya moved further into the lake, far enough to where nothing but about three feet stood inbetween the two. "Hi, I'm Mayanalea...Maya for short. And yes, the lake is quite nice...It's beauty is stunning. To me that it." A slight smile appeared on her face, as her violet orbs scanned Laodice.

"Yes, it's beautiful," Laodice said, "It's so calm and basic. It's the essence of serenity and the continuance of peace that doesn't seem to exist anymore." He looked over at Maya. "But it has to be somewhere, right?" He smiled, thinking he might not be making much sense. "It's nice to meet you Mayanalea," he said. Laodice roled up his pants into shorts and connected four clips that were meant to keep them that way. He walked out into the water until it reached his waist. He looked back at Maya. "You can't really experience something by looking in from the outside," he said, "but it's up to you." He walked out more into the lake and his foot suddenly fell a few inches, suddenly reaching the dropoff. He pushed himself out and started swimming. He looked down at the black water, wondering how deep it was. Something told him he wanted to go down, but there was no way to do it. He would have to be content with what was on the surface. He looked back at Maya, wondering what she was thinking.

Maya smiled as what he had said made so muche sense to her. She found herself enjoying the intellegent manner he Laodice spoke in. He was so...Inquisitive? Insightful? Smart? Yes, smart. Maya laughed at this thought, and she watched as he rolled up his jeans. She watched as he pushed off as he reached the drop off. Why not join him? She then too rolled up her pant legs, not having any clips to roll them up with, and walked forth, pushing up into deep strokes as she reached the drop-off. Maya was an excellent swimmer, and she enjoyed it a great deal. With ease, Maya switched ono her back, arms tredding water in a calm, smooth patern. She glanced at Laodie, smiling, the cool water feeling nice as it rose above her ears.

Laodice smiled at Maya joined him in the water. "Admirable," he said, "most people are a bit skeptical about entering a lake fully clothed." He rolled onto his back and just floated for a moment. "Though I think the risk of mild discomfort later is worth the enjoyment of purity now." He smiled at Maya. She didn't seem to say much, but she spoke by her actions. Laodice enjoyed the cool water and looked around at the still shining water. It was like flowing silver all around. Laodice suddenly felt a jolt of nervousness and he reached into his pocket. He calmed down as soon as he knew the object that his pocket contained was still there. He didn't know why, but to lose it would be like losing part of himself. He zipped the zipper that closed his pocket, wondering why he hadn't done that before. He looked over at Maya. "We're not like most people, yet we are like everyone," he said, "Almost everyone, deep inside them, has the desire to take a risk to connect with something amazing. That's what we have in common with everyone." He paused for a moment. "But it seems," he continued, "that we are the ones who are willing to make the leap. We are the ones who take the risks. That makes us different." He shrugged. "I'm sorry if I'm not making any sense," he said, "I'm just letting my mind speak. I wish more people would speak from their mind and heart instead of simply saying what they feel they need to."

Maya took note on everything he said. She loved how when he spoke, it made sense, nt just useless rambling about last night's football game. "You know, life sometimes is about taking a risk, it makes people like us who we are, and if there were more people like you and me, imagine what the world could be." She glanced over at Laodice, taking note of his sudden movement, and his fumbling with his pocket. "Ad you make more sense than the next person, you speak what most can't, and you do what most won't...I like that." A deep sigh pushed past her lips, and she glanced once again at Laodice, "If you don't mind me asking, what was in yur pocket that made you react so hastily? It's not a hampster is it?!" Maya asked, laugh a little at her own lame joke. If she couldn't laugh at herself, who else would?

Laodice smiled at everything that Maya had said. It was good to have met someone who could understand and respond. It made him think of Tiffany. Perhaps she wasn't as rare as he had thought. He felt bad to have thought that and turned his attention to Maya's question. He unzipped his pocket and removed the item. He was sure it would be harmless to show it to her. He took out a small object and held it up for her to see. It had a golden base with a glass ball on top of it. Inside the glass ball was a figure of a girl and a boy holding both hands, facing each other. The girl and boy were made of onyx stone and when the light hit it, the glass glowed and the onyx stone lit up. It was as if the whole figure was emitting light. As Laodice looked down into it, he noticed an etching inside that he hadn't seen before. The light hit it and a message lit up: "I won't forget you." He looked up at Maya. "I have to bring this to some one," he said, "some one very important to him." He held it up to the light more so it would shine as brightly as it could. It was a wonderful work of art. He looked at Maya. "Do you believe in destiny?"

The object was beautiful, and it gave Maya a tinkling feeling inside. It reminded her of something..Just...What? Well, i was gorgeous, and Maya did not want to allow herself to get lost within her thoughts, it'd just be rude. She smiled as the object twinkled in te sunlight. "You know, that's really gorgeous...It reminds me of something! I just dun know what. It's looks as hough they're having thier own mutual marrige." She turned her head back to its' normal position, the slight sun rays that shone through the canopy of trees glistening off of her porcelin skin. "Of course I believe in destiny. It was desiny for me to end up here at this wonderful lake with you, and that object...That object that reminds me of something, I just don't know what."

Laodice smiled again. "I never put much stock in destiny. The idea of our future being built and taking away our free will just seemed crazy," he said, then paused for a moment, "but I suppose a future can be built. A path can be set for us to follow. We have our free will to follow the path or go astray... but I want to see where the road goes." He looked at the object, then at the water. He put it back in his pocket, then zipped it. "Sorry," he said, "I just don't want to lose it. I think I'm supposed to give it to someone." He looked to the shore, hoping to see another figure approaching, hoping that it would be the one he was to find. But no one was there, only sand. He looked back at Maya. "Have you always believed in destiny?" he asked, "Where is your path going? Sometimes, it's hard to see the end of the road. My path is drenched in a haze of mystery and questions. I hope yours is taking you on a more open and honest adventure." He smiled at her. He was enjoying talking to her. He could simply open up and speak and she would listen. And when she spoke, she made sense and he could hear her heart calling out to be heard, and so he listened. It wasn't just an exchange of words, but of thoughts and intension. It was the purest form of honesty, a reason to speak.

Maya nodded as he put the object away. She took in his opinion, and thought it through carefully. it was nice to every once and a while have a deep and intense conversation with someone who made sense, and wasn't just talking off the top of their head. "You know, I agree with about the paths. And no, I don't know what lies ahead at the end of the road for me, and indeed it's very cloudy, but I do know that whenever I get their, it will have been what was meant for me. Which was destiny." She had been staring up into the high tree tops, admiaring the various shades of green. "Oh how I long for the stars to come out. It would be perfect right now."

It was getting cold. The water was starting to get chilled and, as much as Laodice wished he could stay, he didn't want to freeze in the lake. Wind blew slightly, so Laodice was sure he would catch a cold if he got out and stayed outside. He had to dry off. He looked over at Maya. "I've enjoyed talking to you," he said, "and I hope we can talk again soon. It's getting a bit cold, we should probably get out of the water." He thought of the girl he had been waiting for. He didn't know who she was, but he knew she hadn't shown up. The only thing he knew was that she had long hair. He tried to imagine many times what would happen when he met her, but he had no idea. It seemed every encounter he had with "destiny" was made of random events. He looked back at Maya. "I was hoping to find the one I was looking for here," he said, "but I may have found something better. I'll take a good friend over another person's destiny any day." He looked out at the lake and felt that same feeling of longing and homesickness. He missed the lake, even though he was there. He believed it was the feelings of the other boy. He wondered why he couldn't talk to him whenever he wanted to as the other boy did. He smiled, being content with simply following the course he was set on. It was easier than making choices on everyday things. "Goodbye Mayanalea," Laodice said, swimming to the edge of the water. After returning his pants to normal length and getting as much water out of his clothing as possible, he walked toward teh school, trying to remember his dorm number.
