Tiffany's eyes glazed over when she used her power. They always did. They took on the complexion of ice. As she waved her hand over it, it raised up from the last pool of the fountain. The water she raised danced with the water falling from the upper layers of the fountain. She brought them around and away from the fountain. She made it into a ball. The ball of water was a little bigger than a soccer ball. She spread it out to make it look like a plate. Her hands moving over it like a sculpter with clay. It began to rotate and swirl out like a wind chime. She moved her hands apart and the water seperated into four parts. She sent the parts to Phantom. They circled around his head and took the form of little shapes. The shapes danced and pranced around him. One looking like a faun with a flute, playing while the girls danced to his music. Tiffany brought the parts dancing across the air back to her. The four figures became four letters. T I F F. "Call me Tiff.." She smiled timidly and brought the water back to the fountain. "I am a water elemental as some would call it.."

"Incredible," Laodice said, "Water is very beautiful." He looked at her glazed eyes. They weren't as smooth and glistening as they were before. It was a shame how the use of power tended to override natures beauty. "Your power allows to to create wonderful art," Laodice said, "My power only trumps it. Hides it." He opened a circle of darkness in the sky. "People like you create the light. People like me cast and bring back the darkness," he said. He smiled. "I'd much rather bring back the light. And, by the way, can you call me Laodice. Everyone calls me Phantom. It would be nice to have a name again."

"Laodice..I think I can do that.." She blushed. "You know.." She stood up and walked over to him. She studied the circle of darkness. "Without darkness..there would be no use for the light..It would become so common as to be pointless..less beautiful. There is no reason to have white without black. Like there would be no right without wrong. No love without hate..There is a reason for everything." Her eyes faded back to their natural state. She looked at him right in his eyes. "There would be no day without night.." She looked down at the ground. "Your power is great..It says a lot about you..The way you use it..the way you handle being the only one that can take the journey into the darkness..and come out being as bright and full of life as you are..All I do is play in water.."

Laodice smiled. Tiffany had a grace about her that set her apart form others and a poetic tongue that brought words and dreams to life. "You may be right," Laodice said, "but there are a few that can bring an unseen light to the darkness and an unheard word to the silence. And though unseen and unheard, you can feel it touch you just because you know its there. Something to strive for." He thought for a moment. "That makes me especially lucky to be able to see and hear you," he said with a smile, "because I can enjoy that refreshment to its fullest." Laodice felt happy, but confused. He looked at Tiffany's eyes as if trying to find something hidden behind them.

Tiffany looked him straight in his eyes. Wanting to let him see that she had nothing to hide. "But sometimes you cant hear or see or touch what you so desperately want to..for it is hidden to you. Elusive and cruel.. Something to strive for, yet something to make you mad." She blushed. " Lucky to see me? Ha!" She scoffed. "I am nothing special.. Sometimes I speak when I shouldnt..and stay silent when I should speak..But at least I strive to be happy..To find the good in the bad.. I try to think of the glass as half full..of water so I can mess with it!" She grinned at her joke. "Sorry..that was a bad joke.." She looked at him. "Laodice..can you truely be happy..if you dont understand how wonderful your power is? To be able to get away from it all? To be in a serene place of utter silence and tranquility. No, it may not be bright..but is one not happy when their eyes are closed as well as open ? Think of what you do as a sleep that only you can acheive. A state of peace. One that sometimes I would die for." She leaned back away from him, to look him up and down. "Sometimes there is nothing wrong with darkness.. when all you want to do is get away from the light."

Laodice shook his head. "Never think that you aren't special," he said, "becuase I can assure you that you are." He smiled. "And sometimes it's nice to get away. Too much light can make a person blind," he said. He ran his hand through the water. It was getting colder as the night came closer. "Nighttime..." Laodice said softly. "So painful is the death of light, that brings the beauteous birth of night. The sun falls down to make the way, the moon takes place to shun the day. The stars emerge in memory, of the sun that set them free. The night now bows in gratitude, as day returns once more anew." He looked up at Tiffany and smiled, feeling slightly embarrassed.

Tiffany listened intently as he spoke. "Wow...see? You just spoke what I think of your power..do you know that? Painful is the death of light..You dont like that there is no light where you can go. Beautious birth of night..where you go is beautiful.." She turned her head to the fountain, whose lights were beginning to come on. "The night bows in gratitude..even though you go to the darkest of places..The day returns once more anew.. You can come back to the light..to stay for as long as you want to be out of the dark.. yet even we experience the dark when the sun goes down...but we have no choice.. You do.." She ran her hand through the now colorful waters. " You come back to the light..over and over again.. I wouldnt underestimate the kind of will power that takes.. You have beauty..of words, dreams, thoughts..ones that would make people cry with the beauty of it all..I know it isnt really right to say a man is beautiful..but you know what I mean.." She said blushing furiously and keeping her eyes on the fountain.

Laodice smiled. "Thank you," he said. He looked into the fountain as the lights faded into view. The sun was approaching the horizon and it was as if this fountain was here to pay homage to its patience as it looked down day after day on this despicable world. Laodice looked over at Tiffany. "I'm glad we met, Tiffany," he said, "You don't just see the glass as half full. You can fill it to the top." He smiled. He was trying hard not to scare her off, but he felt a very strong connection to her already. Without realizing it, he slowly diminished the gravity field around himself. He couldn't feel himself getting lighter and lighter to the point of lifting off the ground slightly. He was trapped in the beauty before him. He finally noticed something and looked down. "Whoa," he said, suddenly dropping back down to his seat on the fountain side.

Tiffany smiled widely at him. "Full glass...the wonderful optimist..well I try to be..I dont like being sad.." She was in awe of the beautiful colors of the fountain. She had hoped to see them when she found out that the fountain would light up at night. She saw out of the corner of her eye that Laodice seemed to be moving. She turned just in time to see him hit the seat. She giggled and covered her mouth with her hand. She blushed and smiled at him again. "Laodice..what is it about you?..." She turned away and watched the sun setting. "I never talk to people anymore..I had a ..well..a bad experience with my power..and everyone I knew turned away from me..I didnt want to trust people anymore." She shook her head." I try to say that I am an optimist..but I am anything but that..You are the first person I have really talked to here.." She hung her head. She turned her head and looked at him. "Why do I feel like I have known you my whole life? Why do I feel like I can tell you anything?" She turned back to the sunset.

"The wonderful optimist, you are!" Laodice said, "The diamond in the rough. A priceless gem in a pit of coal." He listened as she mentioned trouble with her powers. "We've all had hard times," he said, "but nothing is without a blemish in some way. Our lives take us on many paths and at least one is bound to have a bump in the road." He shook his head. "Don't give up on having hope. I hope you can find it in you to believe every word you've said to me." He moved closer to her, careful not to get too close. "I feel like I've known you a long time too. And you can always trust me," he continued, "I'll always be there for you. I promise," he said solemnly. He looked up as the stars came out. A million lights in the darkness.

Tiffany felt a tear run down her cheek. "You are so kind.." She leaned her head back to look at the stars. " I do believe everything I said..but I believe it about you..Me..I am not to sure of.." She smiled as she cried, something she didnt know she could do. " I just hope that I can be there for you..for some reason with you I feel...needed.." She laughed. "Trust you...Im glad...I need someone I can trust. It has been a while since I could confide in someone. Thank you for listening to my nonsense." She said as she wiped away the tears. "Beautiful stars..and so many of them..makes you wonder how we were made..So small and insignificant compared to all of this." She spread her arms and motioned to it all, the sky full of stars, the darkened maze with its glorious fountain. She wrapped her arms around herself and shivered slightly against the chill of the night. She turned her head and watched Laodice look up at the stars. She sighed quietly and stood up. "I think I should be getting back to my dorm..I hope to see you again.." She said as she tried to make her way back through the maze.

"Bye Tiff," Laodice said, smiling, "I hope to see you again soon." It was exciting just to say her name. He waved as she left through the maze. Smiling, he turned to the fountain. The lights were bright now and were many different colors. He looked up at Michella and Vexx, but couldn't think of anything to say. Feeling that he shouldn't do anything that might ruin the night, he stepped off into darkness and made his way back to his dormitory, thinking of his conversation with Tiffany all the way.

Tiffany smiled slowly. She hummed. She didnt remember being this happy. No...she did..and it ended terribly. The thought took the smile off of her face. "He said I can trust him..but can he trust me?" She was saddened by the realization that she could hurt him. She would never want to..but it seemed that wanting something never seemed to help her at all. She hadnt wanted to hurt the last person she knew. But she had almost killed him. She shook her head. "That is in the past..I must not let it ruin my life..Even though I almost ruined his." She took a deep breath. "I wonder when I will get to see him again." She pictured his face and smiled at the smile on his face. She remembered the poem he had spoken about the sunset and she sighed deeply. "Whenever did I get my luck back? Well...who am I to question it when I am happy.."
