Sound travels far through a forest in the dead of night. Arkady stood staring pensively through the cloying darkness. His sapphire gaze twinkled with curiosity and fierce intelligence as he tried to mull over the sound that had reached him. A sinewy hand brushed away a lock of his chin length, shaggy blonde hair away from his handsome features. Unconsciously, he rested his hand on the black whip coiled at his right side; that whip meant everything to him. It was a constant reminder as to why he was even here. Ah, Dad, you dolt...
Arkady Scott Belmont sighed heavily and shook his head; now was REALLY not the time to dwell on the past. Pulling his red and white leather hauberk tighter around his athletic body, the Hunter set off to find the source of the unusual cry. Although the leaves underfoot were damp and offered little resistance, he nearly winced each time one was crushed beneath his boot; the slight crinkle seemed deafening in the haunting silence. He breathed lightly through his nose as he strolled on, but even that was too loud for his liking.
Still, it was unlikely that a trap or ambush would be set up all the way out here... After all, he was way off the map. Yes, it had probably been some lost, frightened child crying woefully for its parent. So he kept assuring himself.
Another step and another... surely he should be able to sense someone or something by now! No matter how strong the so-called sixth sense is in an individual, there is an intrinsic proficiency to be able to detect another sentient lifeform within a close proximity. Arkady sensed nothing; and that alone was unsettling and caused a chill sweat to form on the back of his neck. With his heightened sense of awareness, this should be an easy mission - or so he'd thought. Well, whatever the case may be, it was his sworn duty to investigate and see if anything was wrong or if anyone was in trouble and -
WHACK!
A swift smack to the back of the head and Arkady pitched forward with a soft moan, now unable to see or sense anything as he sank into the void of unconsciousness.
-------------
A soft chuckle pierced the darkness and it suddenly faded away, revealing the semi-familiar, circular simplicity of the Danger Room. It had been Sensei Gekigami Tanaka chuckling as he fiddled with the controls for the training facility, and he came forward and pulled the dazed Arkady to his feet. "Not too bad for your first try, Belmont-san," the foreign professor said. "Even I have yet to adapt to the projected enviroments of the Danger Room, and I commend your mental flexibility." Gekigami spoke English fluently, but his japanese heritage was apparent in his accent - especially on the difficulty he experienced pronouncing any word with the letter 'L'. Turning to the other students present, Tanaka-san then said, "I hope the rest of you were paying attention! Would someone else like to give the Forest Scenario a go? If not, I would like to hear your thoughts on what Arkady did wrong, or things you feel he did right. Anyone?"

Dementia had been standing flattened against the rounded walls of the Danger Room silently, attempting to not draw any attention to herself in the vicinity of any teachers since the... well, the episode with Mr. Railen. Internal emotions were boiling inside of her as she fought to resist the intense urge to just kill something--the intense urge to get lost in one of the alternate worlds that the Danger Room hid from view. She didn't want to think anymore; those thoughts had betrayed her too many times, though her body had usually remained loyal to her own purpose. Usually.
Which was why she was so surprised when she found herself staring at a raised arm. The stick-thin thing seemed so weak against the plain, harsh walls of the Danger Room lined with hard rock. She tried to will it to move, to fall back into line, but it stood stock-still as if purposely defying her. It was like it wasn't her own body;yes--that could be the only reason!--as the nature of her powers inspired such awareness and control of herself. She was able to rip her bones out of her body and contort her form into inhuman shapes, and yet she couldn't force her arm to succumb to the force of gravity and save herself from what she wanted most--to get lost in a fight.
Her voice went next. It was so sickeningly clear and purposeful, and so like her.
"Tanaka-san, instead of pointing out all of his faults, how about I just go in and show the class how to do it right?" her voice was arrogant as she gazed on Arkady with eyes full of contempt. She didn't know why. She didn't try to perform the habitual motion. She didn't even know what the contempt was for. Dementia had come to dislike any humans but herself for seemingly no reason at all. Weakness, was it? Incompetence, was it? Or was it just that she hated them all for pretending to be better than the animals that they were? Or maybe it was because Arkady was commended for letting his guard down and allowing himself to be attacked. That must have been it. That must have been it.
It was getting harder to convince herself.

Amberly waited for Dementia to complete her sentence before raising her hand. She smiled only slightly as she spoke up after Dementia's words of 'she was going to do it right'. "Sensei , I do not think that there is any right way of battle in the danger room. It seems to me, from what I observed that, ARkady was TOO alert, thus letting his normal senses of alertness be over drawn, kinda like trying to hard..." She spoke out, acting as though she was trying to be a know it all, but in her case, that was the way she was, yet she wasn't aware of her attitude. She fixed her bangs that protruded over her eye's and pulled them behind her ears, as she looked at the teacher. She waited for his words of what she thought about Arkady.
Amberly wasn't one for battle, but she had her secrets. She was an excellent karate student, which gave her the advantage over some when it came to hand to hand combat. Her powers weren't offensive, but exactly the opposite. She was a healer, although she found it impossible to heal herself. When missions were set in the danger room, she always found herself to be right there, either to compete or to heal those who'd failed before her. PUtting her hands behind her back interlocking her fingers, She watched Dementia's reaction to her and how she spoke to the teacher and with the comment she made earlier.
___________ Anthony shook his head slightly at Dementia's comment on the battle and rolled his eye's. He wouldn't be expected to fight this soon. He didn't even know how the danger room worked. It was his perfect element however, he was unsure, since it was a simualtion that if he was to call upon the earth to protect him, that it might fail. He wretched where he stood and could only feel nervousness against the fact that he'd have to do this simulation sooner or later. He looked over at Amberly as she began to speak, and couldn't help but let out a stiffled laugh as she tried to overdue Dementia. That a girl, you tell her. You make her think that she always can't do things right. Besides. If arkady wasn't able to do it, what makes her think she can? He shrugged his shoulder's subconsciously and looked over at the other students in the room. There wasn't many who showed up, but this would be interesting. The less students here, might mean that the session might be longer for each student. He held his breath for a moment and scratched his cheek. There's no way I'm speaking up, if I do.. that's a sure fire way to get picked. Being outspoken, usually means that your in line. I'll just stay quiet and hopefull, If I do have to go, I'll be the last. That way I can show them how it's... Well, I just hope I don't make a fool out of myself infront of everyone.

Geki glanced at Dementia with an unreadable expression. "Very well... Dementia, is it? You shall be next. However, I would like to hear some other thoughts first." His status as a demi-god enabled him to sense that something was amiss, but as he did not know the student well enough, he could not say what and merely dismissed her contempt as hubris.
A small smile crept over his striped features as Amberly spoke. "Very good, Amberly. That is exactly how I felt. One cannot concentrate too much on what is or isn't, or else one will lose oneself in this possibility. It makes you blind to the reality at hand and blocks out what very well could be." He nodded and ushered Arkady over to the wall. "Do you understand now, Arkady?"
"Y-yes, Sensei... and thank you," Arkady replied; none of his usual confidence could be heard in his voice. He leaned up against the wall with a long sigh and threw a glare at Dementia. Who the heck did she think she was? His senses were better than feline in nature, and if he couldn't detect a hidden foe, what hope did she think she had? Granted, as both Amberly and Sensei Tanaka had said, he'd concentrated too hard... but still.
Bah! Whatever. He hoped she made a big fool of herself.
Geki was fiddling with the controls again. "Alright Dementia, things are all set for your trial, but are you sure would not like to share your thoughts on your fellow student's run? I would very much like to hear what a confident girl like yourself is thinking."

"You want to hear my thoughts, Tanaka-san?" Dementia asked as she straightened her posture and walked out into the middle of the room, ready to go into the simulation. She was strangely numb, feeling no trepidation at all from Arkady's glare, nor from the prospect of going into a world in which he had so easily fallen.
"Arkady was a fool to think that some sort of reality existed. There isn't and has never been any constant in this world... or that." She didn't realize the cryptic double-meaning in her words that would mean something only to her. She could feel Arkady's eyes boring holes into the back of her head and turned to meet his leer with a steely glare that fit the cold, gray-blue color of her eyes.
"Focus is a folly. Therefore, one must leave all senses susceptible to anything and completely remove oneself from one's body and one's own actions. His intense awareness over every move he made, every sound that escaped his being--it all left himself expecting something to happen, sending his mind into overdrive. He was afraid to be found, rather than to confront his attacker head on, and worried about his own motions more than his target's. That is all, Tanaka-san."
Her fingers twitched tensely, contracting and relaxing as she waited to start her fight. She faced it with no emotion but a slight impatience. Her body and mind both ached for this; she wanted so badly to lose herself. She couldn't bear to listen to the voices of the class any longer. She wanted to go.

Despite the barb embedded in Dementia's words, Geki looked genuinely impressed and replied, "Very profound, Miss Kemik. I think you should heed the calling of a philosophy major, yes? Not only did you pinpoint exactly where Arkady went wrong, you drove the point home by even venturing a plausible conclusion as to why Belmont-san made the assumptions that he did." The instructor cast a sympathetic glance in the younger man's direction. "But we've digressed, and we should give poor Arkady a break; it's not easy being the first one in a new simulation. Let's give him someone else a chance to get picked on, eh? Ha ha!"
Arkady merely snorted and crossed his arms over his chest moodily. This was the last time he'd volunteer to go first for anything so long as he was a student at this school! ...Or at least as long as Mr. Tanaka was teaching and/or Dementia was in his class...
Firing up the simulator, Geki then said, "Ok, Dementia, prepare yourself." The Danger Room melted away and Dementia found herself in the same dark, silent forest Arkady had been in moments before. "You're trial begins... now."
