Terren walked along but was sidetracked, drowning in memories of his troubled past. He continued walking until he reached a small monument, unmarked as to its purpose, but all the gifted knew it well. The monument stood in front of Terren who looked down at it and read the solemn inscription:
In memory of those we cherish Who in struggle quickly perished, We leave our love for those we lost Who fought for freedom at great cost. We stand here now, our world anew And hold tight to our final few. Though sad our saviors had to fall, We thank them, for they saved us all.
Terren looked at the monument and rembered the things he'd been taught about the start of Cassis; the sacrifices made by those who set the gifted world apart from the "normal" world. He wondered if he would have made such sacrifices. He took the solitary moment to reflect on his own past.
