Click. The phone was hung up. Maya's just called Arkady over...Since the bombing, she hadn't seen the living daylights of Arkady...Well, she had, just it not directly. And he hadn't seen her, the times she had seen him, for she was kind of secretly dodging him. For the simple fact that she was not yet ready to-She didn't know why. Perhhaps it was the secret she held inside of her...That day at the lake. Maya truley hoped that one inccedent, her being in the heat of the moment, wouldn't ruin her and Arkady's relationship...She was going to be honest. Hopefully, he wouldn't see it as such a big deal, because really, it wasn't. It didn't mean anything, it was just a thing that sort of just happened
"Arkady, could you come over to my dorm? I have something to get off my chest...Oh, and just let yourself in once you get here, it saves time, thanks." Click That was how it happened. Hopefully he would show, for she hadn't given him time enough to gather a response. But, knowing him, he would indeed show, well, that's what Maya would have liked to think...She sat the edge of her bed, twiddling her thumbs, glancing around the vacant room, no one there but her and her herself, for now.

"Arkady, could you come over to my dorm? I have something to get off my chest...Oh, and just let yourself in once you get here, it saves time, thanks."
The young Russian's heart soared as he listened to the message on his cellphone - even if it had been in the middle of his 'interlude' with Sophie... Hoo-boy. He snapped it shut and threw the rest of his random things in his bag. Just a CD player, a couple of CDs, a few pens and his journal, and an extra t-shirt. No problem ever arose for a man who came prepared for all things! He even had a couple of condoms in a small, innocuous pocket. Buuut no one was supposed to know about those...
Maya wanted to talk to him! He felt a surge of glee - followed by a crash of guilt; he and Sophie... Oh man. Well, he'd just have to tell Maya. That was the only thing to do; it was the right thing to do. Besides, it wasn't like he'd done it on purpose, it had just sort of... happened. Emotions were running wild, Sophie had just confessed her love for him, and... things had gone from there. He'd acted without thought; she'd acted without thought.
Yes, Arkady had to tell Maya what had happened. No lies, no falsehoods, no sugar-coated words. And whatever she thought of him after that would be well-deserved.
Reaching Maya's door, Arkady took a deep breath and let it out slowly, his fingers resting pensively on the doorknob. C'mon Arkasha, be a man! Don't you dare wuss out now... Right.
Before his courage failed him, Arkady pushed open the door and walked in. "M-Maya?"

Maya's head whipped around as the door opened. Heart fluttering. Memories of that day. His golden tresses.Mouth going dry....Arkady. That's exactly why she had been avoiding him. "H-hey, Arkady...Come sit." She patted a spot beside her on her matress, waiting patiently for him to come over. There was no way she could avoid him now, he was in her dorm, and there was no turning back.
Maya's eyes were down, focusing on her twidling thumbs. It's bad enough I have to tell him, do I have to look him straight in the eyes too?!? Still, she looked not into his eyes, inhaling deeply. "Uhm..Arkady," Maya paused.
"What I have to tell you is," Out with it! Perhaps it wouldnt be too much of a deal to him, and would roll right off of his back...Hopefully. "Ikissedaguy" The last part of the sentence was highly rushed. It wounded as though the words were competing to come out first.
"It was in the heat of the moment..." "It didn't mean anything...I dont regret it, but I wasnt going to lie to you." Her words were rushed, and just for a split second, she glanced at him, before directing her attention elsewhere. Still, she couldn't sigh of relief, not yet anyways.

Arkady did as she wished, seating himself beside her on the bed, resisting the overwhelming temptation to pull her into his arms. No doubt after he spoke she'd be pushing him away, anyway...
"Ikissedaguy. It was in the heat of the moment... It didn't mean anything...I dont regret it, but I wasnt going to lie to you." Arkady stiffened, but said nothing. He had just barely caught himself from letting out a sigh of relief. Hey, sins were always much easier to confess when the innocent part wasn't so innocent.
The young Russian glanced down at his own fumbling thumbs and huffed out his nose. "...Really?" he said calmly. "I... hadn't been expecting that, but I'm not angry. I'm not even disappointed. It... happens." He raised his head once more and tried to giver her an encouraging smile. "We are... beings of emotion and sexuality, sometimes these things break free of our control. I've seen it before..." His expression fell and guilt filled his sapphire gaze. "Maya... I'm so sorry... I... I have to tell you..." He swallowed hard and closed his eyes, trying to ingore the shameful feeling as a tear slid down his cheek. "I... I kissed Sophie - err, Dementia. It was... it was nothing I planned! It just... happened, like you. Emotions were running high, she had confessed her guilt about something, and then she was all over me. I couldn't resist." As much as Arkady had wanted to tell Maya the full truth, he couldn't bring himself to tell her that Sophie had professed her love for him. He turned his body away, unable to even look at Maya. "I'm so sorry... If you want me to leave... if you never want to see me again... I fully understand."

Maya was about to sigh, but barely had the chance to when a rush of guilt took over Arkady's features, a tear rolling down his cheek. What could he have done that was so bad that it made him cry? She'd never seen him cry, so apparently it was a major deal. Then, the words "I kissed" rolled right off of his tounge, and Maya for a split second thought that it wasn't too bad.
"I... I kissed Sophie - err, Dementia. It was... it was nothing I planned! It just... happened, like you. Emotions were running high, she had confessed her guilt about something, and then she was all over me. I couldn't resist."
Maya's mouth went dry. Her head immediatley fell, her hair acting as curtians, shielding her face from the outside world. Heat raced through her veins, reaching her skin. She could feel her face turning red. Out of anger? Embarrassment? It was unknown why. The back of her eyes stung, and she tried to force the tears back, but they came spilling down her face.
Suddenly, a feeling of defeat washed over Maya. It was like she knew she had lost. She suddenly felt worthless, as though all she had been through with Arkady meant nothing. The rug had been pulled from underneath her once again. She didnt know whether to fuss Arkady's head off or to just run away, and hide her face. That sigh of relief was never going to come afterall...
"I'm sorry," Her voice was incredibley shakey, and she managed to scrape up a slight chuckle, though nothing was funny,"I'm sorry I ever, ever thought we could have something together." Her head turned to Arkady's turned back, her rosey cheeks coated in salty streams of tears.
"And that's where you're wrong Arkady," Maya said in a shakey, but matter-of-factly tone of voice, "It was nothing like me. You love her! And she probably loves you too." She shook her head, before letting it fall again.
"So what are you doing wasting your time with little ol' me? Or was I just a back up until you could finally get that kiss with her."
Ugggh!! I feel so used, so unloved, I feel Im to blame! I feel confused!" Maya shouted, the tears flowing harder. Sure it was a kiss, but it wasn't just any ol' kiss. Maya could tell by the way he said her name, Sophie that he felt something so much greater for her, that he probably would never feel for Maya.

Arkady immediately whipped around. "No! Maya, don't think that! Not even for a second, did I ever think... n-no!" He raised his arms to comfort her, but immediately let them fall again; she probably hated his guts now. The logical part of him told him that was hypocritical of her, but... what did it matter? It was tearing him apart to know he'd caused Maya this much pain after all she'd done for him. A sharp pain developed in his chest, leaving him gasping for breath. "No... no..." he kept saying, over and over.
But, in a way, wasn't it true? Sophie loved him. Sophie wanted him. Sophie needed him. And Arkady was beginning to think the same was true for him. He was a firm believer that everyone had someone they were meant for in this world; he never thought he'd meet that person, but that didn't mean he didn't believe in it... ((That Blue October song, Hate Me, keeps going through my head, lol)) "Maya... please..." Arkady cried when he found his voice again. "You really do mean so much to me... You gave me back a part of myself I thought irretrievable... You taught me again that it's ok to forget about my duties once in a while and let loose..." He'd never told her what that 'duty' is, but it didn't matter. "You... Oh God, you've given so much to me and look what I've done!" This time there was no stopping the crash of guilt that reduced him to tears. And pain. His guilt hurt so much that Arkady thought he would pass out from it. Maya... Sophie... He'd always known subconsciously that it would come down to this, but did it have to hurt them both so much?

Her blurred gaze turned to Arkady. It hurt her to see him hurting, but what could she do? She didn't know, she couldn't think straight. All she wanted to do was push him away so that he could have what he clearly wanted, which was Dementia, or Sophie. But she knew that she would regret it, but she just was so confused, she didn't know what to do....And at the same time she did. Her head shook as though she were in disbelief of everything he was saying, "Arkady, that may be true," she said, trying to suck up her tears and hurt, "But that moment when you kissed her, I was your dutie, and you forgot me" Her head rested in her palm, her head still turned toward Arkady. "You've done something you've probably wanted to do for a long time, but never thought about it when you were with me..."Her voice trailed off as she fell back on the bed, her arms out to the side, her lavender gaze on the ceiling. "So go, Arkady. Go on to Sophie."She rolled on to her side, her back towards him. "I don't want to be the weight that is constantly holding you back." A single tear fell down her face. She had decided that she was threw with crying for Arkady....For now that is...

Maya's words were like a flaming knife in his chest. Arkady denied it, and even felt a small spark of anger over what she was wrongfully accusing him of. However, with so much pain and emotion running rampant through his body, Arkady's cool logic took over and he stood. His breathing regulated and he stared at Maya's back with a blank expression. Shouldering his bag, he said, "Fine. Believe what you want," he said coolly. "Obviously nothing I say or feel matters at all..." He roughly scrubbed the tears from his face; how embarrassing! Yeah, it was kind of a mean thing to say, but Arkady had found throughout most of his life that the truth could be harsh and disturbing. But then he thought of Sophie and some of his anger dissipated. The strength of her love for him was the one truth in his life Arkady wholly embraced. True, seperating himself from an innocent young woman who had indulged his sweeter side was difficult and very painful, but things happened. They just... did.
As Arkady opened the door to exit her dorm, he said, "Do yourself a favour: Don't chase older men." His voice was devoid of emotion. He paused, wondering if he should say something else like, 'Farewell' or, 'My door is always open' but any words he thought up just didn't sound right, and would probably come across as a knee-jerk nag. Maya meant far too much to him for Arkady to do that to her. So, with a sigh, he stepped out into the hall and gently closed her door behind him.

As Arkady spoke, Maya's body went warm, her face red, her gaze at no where in particular coming to a glare. She quickly sat upright. "Fine, belive what you want." Well obviously what she said held some truth to it! He surely wasn't denying it. "Listen here, Arkady Belmont," Maya demanded through clenched teeth, "I'm only believing what YOU put out there!" Maya watched as he walked towards her door, her cool gaze on his back. She was more angry with him now than anything.
"Do yourself a favour: Don't chase older men."
Maya jumped to her feet, catching the closing door, tears welling up in the corner of her eyes once more.
"Well, do us a favor; Stop playing girl's emotions like little dolls on a shelf."
She took the back of her hand to her face, removing the now flowing tears. It hurt her truly to even be mad at him, but it was what it was, and if this was how it was going to be, then what could she do?

Arkady ignored her and kept walking; he'd BEEN denying what she'd been saying! However, one of the tenets logic dictated that two passionate people cannot have a an intelligent conversation, so Arkady knew it would be better if he just left it for now and renewed his plea of innocence later, when both of them had had time to cool down.
That is, he was content to wait things out until her voice rang out: "Well, do us a favor; Stop playing girl's emotions like little dolls on a shelf."
Arkady froze. He then slowly turned, his angelic face a mask of anger and hurt. Dropping his bag, he stalked over to Maya purposefully until he was towering over her, his fierce gaze ablaze with blue fire. "How dare you," he whispered vehemently. "You, who were the one to lead me on. You, who played me and pretended to love me. Don't you dare try and play the victim and act all righteous." His gaze narrowed dangerously. "Do you have any idea how hypocritical you're being? You played my heart like a fiddle. I fell for you Maya, I wanted to give you everything I have, and you took our relationship and spat on it. After making me believe that nothing could come between us, you not only kissed another guy and revelled in it, you make me feel like a jackass for doing the same spur-of-the-moment action AND THEN you have the nerve to make it look like I'm the architect of our destruction! What conceit." Moisture began to rim his eyes again and he turned away. "Just leave me alone from now on..." His words dripped with pain and regret.

The fierocity that Arkady held in his gaze was too in Maya's as well. She listened to his words, and was oddly growing more insulted by the second. "You, who were the one to lead me on. You, who played me and pretended to love me. Don't you dare try and play the victim and act all righteous." Maya's jaw dropped a little without even thinking about it. She would allow him to finish his whispered rant, she wanted to see how he really felt. Her arms were folded tight across her chest, her face still red with fury. "I led you on? It was you who asked me to dance with you at the dance, and it was youthat asked me to the fair, if I can recall! And don't you dare compare the mistake I made to the mistake you made. You actually felt something for her, Arkady! I can tell! You don't even call her Dementia." Her head turned as she tried to surpress the tears that were soon to come.
"I played yourheart like a fiddle? You went and kissed someone that already meant something to you before I did...I wouldn't be surprised if you loved her, and she loved you back." Maya's blury gaze fixed with his own, "And no, Arkady, you're not the architect of our destruction, she is."

(OOC: Oh man, this almost as bad as the cheezy soap operas my mom watches XD I lurv it)
Arkady's smooth brow furrowed and he pointed a finger at Maya. "You... you came to me at the dance! What was I gonna do?! Just deny the existence of one of the most beautiful girls in the room and turn you down? No way!" He took a step back and spread his arms wide. "You approached me, interrupting my conversation with Sophie and initiated everything! Yeah, I asked you to dance. Sure, I then asked you to come to the fair with me. Fair enough." He nodded. "Did I read the signs wrong? Were you just trying to mess with my head?"
The anger sudden left him and his expression fell, his powerful shoulders sagging in defeat. "Fine, whatever. I'm used to it. It's all my fault, fine; just don't go blaming Sophie." He turned to walk away again. "You know what? Stay away from me; it's for your own good. I'm nothing but trouble for anyone who crosses my path..." His voice had cracked. "Nothing but trouble... and I care too much to see you hurt again... Not that it matters, obviously."

Maya shook her head, obviously fed up with his lame guilt trip.
"Arkady... I am blaming her. If it had been another girl you kissed, I would've forgiven you without a doubt, no, I do forgive you now, but our fall was because of her, and you can't take that kiss back...Not that you would probably want to. You know what, just go and be happy with her. It's what you want, and it'll probably be best for us," she said in a montone voice. She was exsaughsted and tired of fighting with him. But it didn't matter what she said, things between the two o them were never going to be the same whether they remained friends or not.
