Jonelle stood in line. She had been waiting for a while. The people behind her, having caught a glance or two, had cleared out. The people in front of her couldn't see her, so they weren't kind enough to shorten her wait. The ride in question looked like it was fun, and almost worth the wait. It was several cars on a chain that swung you around backwards at ungodly speeds while the current hit song was blasted at you. The only thing that made it not worth the wait was that no one would be sitting with her to share the fun. Jonelle sighed. She had told herself many times that she would get proper revenge on the bombers, and she felt it very extremely right now. If they hadn't bombed her school, she would still be normal. If she was still normal, then she would be waiting in line with someone right now. Jonelle sighed and clicked her claws a few times. He antennae hung a bit low as she was getting bored.

Ellis' hands were shoved in his pockets as he shuffled around the fair, the long laces of his tennis shoes trailing in the dirt. In his mind he was writing letters to his family--something that he seemed to be doing constantly, and could see in his inner vision sheets of paper filled with his small, tedious script.
Today I went to the Cassis Fair. I probably should have gone with some of the guys, because it would have been more fun that way, but Greg was busy and I didn't feel like seeing Warren for some reason. I guess I'm just not in the mood for jokes off of bubble gum wrappers. Then again, who is? : ) Still, I always fake a little laugh. It makes him feel good.
The sun was bright on his tan skin, reflecting off his dark hair. He could feel the warmth washing over his arms comfortably. There was barely a cloud to obstruct his vision of the deep blue sky. A wonderful day. Elisa loved days like these. He raised a hand to put his eyes in shadow against the sun's glare to see more easily.
Absently, he meandered through the fair without purpose, continuing to transcribe his thoughts and few actions onto the letters in his head, with commentary for all his siblings. He wandered into the short line where Jonelle was standing, and ran right into the back of her and apologized reflexively, immediately.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," he stammered. "I probably should have been watching where I was go--" he chuckled weakly as he spoke, and was cut off in the middle of his sentence as he realized exactly what he had felt when he slammed into her and saw the strange shape that his radar had bounced off of. "--ing." He finished quickly and cleared his throat, embarrassed that he had been so rude as to gawk at her like that. But boy, was she something to gawk at! At least, he was pretty sure it was a she. That seemed like long hair. Then again, men had long hair occasionally as well.
You guys won't believe some of the people here. It's amazing, and sometimes can get a little disgusting and weird. When I was at the fair I ran smack into this... lobster person! At least, that's what the shape seemed like! Really! Like the kind you see on a plate at those fancy restaurants Dad takes Donna to on their anniversary, except with a face! It was a little unnerving, because I mean, her claws were HUGE! I feel really bad for making such a scene though, because you guys know you should never stare, as it's really bad and makes people feel horribly self-conscious, but it was just so strange!
He tried hard to act as if it was no big deal as he grabbed the railing nearby, tapped his fingers on it, and sent waves hurtling at the ride that he seemed to be about to go on. They came back at different speeds and in different directions, skewing his view of it, meaning that it was moving at a fast speed. Great. Seemed like something that would make him vomit. He hated spinning rides. Then again, he wasn't really an amusement park guy. He didn't even entirely know why he came to the fair at all. Perhaps just for the change of scenery. Well, he got his wish. This was quite a... change.
The tips of his ears were red, as he was embarrassed at his rudeness to the lobster--girl--thing. He stood behind her for the few uncomfortable seconds of silence before he finally unconsciously extended his hand and offered a quick introduction.
"Hi, I'm Ellis Ayle. Sorry again for bothering you."

Jo looked a bit frustrated at Ellis. "Well, you didn't run away," her feminine voice rang out. "That's an improvement." She shoved her claw out to be shaken. "Jonelle. It's no problem." She paused. She moved the hand a little more upwards. Her four foot tall body was used to previously hanging out with a little smaller kids. A person in front of Jo, unaware that anyone was behind her, turned around and then ran out of the que. "So much for that change," commented Jo, and sighed.

((Yeah, that song in your siggy is really creepy. At least you didn't get the bad parts in it. xD))
Ellis carefully shook her claw, realizing that he had put his hand out reflexively, and tried not to make any kind of face that would reveal how creepy this was for him. It was slightly bumpy and was just... different than anything else he'd ever felt before. His radar revealed her to be nearly two thirds of a meter shorter than he, and it reminded him of his younger siblings.
She was about as tall as you, Elisa, but I think she was much older. At least, her voice sounded like it. Maybe being a... lobster person stunted her growth or something. I dunno. I feel bad for her. She seems like she gets a lot of stares and stuff. And of course, I am guilty of making a scene out of it, which doesn't exactly help the matter. You guys always need to be polite to anyone and everyone, no matter how different or strange they may seem, okay? I don't want to be your role model if you're going to turn out to be a bunch of snobby brats. This is a good lesson for you all and for me.
"Sorry that things aren't going too well for you, but I don't think you're that scary," he told her, trying to cheer her up. He didn't think it would work very well. "I mean... if it helps. Some people are just afraid of anything that's different. But, I've experienced a lot of strange things. I go to Cassis School for the Gifted, and we've really got some weirdos there. Of course, not weird, but..." He didn't really like his choice of words right now.

OoC: There are many more and much more creepier songs than that. Consider yourself lucky. XD
BiC: Jonelle laughed. "It's not a problem. I go there too." She streched. "I know I'm weird. I can't really understand it, though. Can't..." Jo thought for a bit. "...almost like shock. Grew up in a place where you're normal and then...Pow. People run away from you." Jo's antennae moved around wantonly, absorbing the vibrations coming from the ride. "Seems like some fun, doesn't it?"

"You go to Cassis? Really? I don't remember ever coming across you," he told her. His eyes were drifting down towards his shoes, as he remembered she was much shorter than he. Perhaps he could seem more like he was looking at her this way. He could feel the vibrations of the ride magnified in his feet, the pulses as it spun unevenly. It was especially evident on the metal railing. He took his hand off of it, feeling uncomfortable.
"Well, I know how it is to grow up normal and have a lot of things change. I mean, maybe I wasn't ever in a family entirely normal per se, but you get my drift," he grinned sheepishly, putting one hand behind his head. He hadn't sent any more waves out since he was examining the ride, and it was easy to forget that she was a lobster person rather than just a normal girl. At least, as long as he didn't touch her. Then she talked about the ride. He still didn't exactly know what he was getting into, as he couldn't form a clear picture of it when it was moving so fast.
"Um, what exactly am I in line for, anyway?" he asked, a little nervous. He didn't like it when he didn't have his feet on the ground, because he couldn't feel the vibrations of people and things. He also didn't like it when he was moving so fast, because his radar didn't work well. During those times is when he truly felt blind.

Jo took a while before answering. "It's a ride that spins you around backwards in cars. Very fast." she said. This person...he wasn't looking at her face, which was odd, because he seemed like he wanted to. Normally people didn't look at her face because, well, she was a lobster. But this was different. He had gotten past that. Also, he had asked what he was in line for. He must be unable to see. But how could he see her...how could he know she was weird? "You're blind, aren't you?" she asked. "But how do you override it?"

"Oh. That one," he muttered, his brow furrowing. "Great. Judging by the sound of the screams I thought I was in trouble." He tried to joke a little to cover up the fact that he was a little anxious about getting on.
It kind of stinks that she figured out I was blind. I guess I did give her a huge hint asking what ride I was in line for, but I thought I had been doing well covering it up. I guess not. It's just, when you can't see it's hard to look someone in the eye, because it's not as if I get a perfect picture through the reflection of my waves, but I try really hard judging by the sound of their voice and stuff. I mean, you guys know what I'm talking about.
He was still a little startled when she asked him so frankly. "You're blind, aren't you?" It kind of stung, the way she said it, just so easily, so normally. He cringed inwardly and put on a smile.
"You are correct. But I try not to let that on. I used to carry a cane and stuff, but not anymore, so that people don't notice it as much," he told her, wagging his finger playfully as if reprimanding one of his siblings. He hadn't used his radar for a while, and held his finger way too high for her. At her next question he really did grin. How did he get past it?
"I have my ways. There are always ways to outsmart a disability. It's part of my powers. I can manipulate and create waves and vibrations. Think of a bat's sonar. They send out supersonic sound waves that reflect off of whatever happens to be in their way. That's kind of like what I do, except I can use whatever waves I want. I can even receive radio waves in my head if I want to, or change the frequency of any waves around here. It's kind of cool, actually. So when I sent out the waves, I got a basic rough image of what you looked like. Although I would have figured out something was amiss even if I didn't have my capabilities." He winked at her. "You shook my hand with your claw, you know." He chuckled.
He could feel vibrations in his feet and hear the sounds of footsteps ahead of him. The ride's pulsing vibrations, however, had ceased. "I think we're moving," he told Jonelle, holding back onto the rail so that he could stay on track with where he was going. "Are we up next, or is it the group after this?"

Jo nodded. Bat's sonar, it mad sense. She heard Ellis' inquiry. "I can't tell right now," Jo said, but as the line progressed further, it became apparent that it was their turn. "Yup, our turn." she said, smiling. "This is gonna be awesome!" she was extremely happy that she would, in the end, be riding with someone. The man let her and Ellis through onto the ride, and she was smiling from ear to ear. If she had ears. She chose a car and sat in it, waiting for Ellis so they could strap in. She was eager as could be, and the music only increased her adrenalin.

Well, at least she was happy. The glee in her voice was obvious, especially to his attuned ears. He wasn't too pleased, but tried not to let it show on her face as it would probably burst her bubble. He let his hand slide down the length of the railing until he reached the gate at the end and was ushered in by the person standing there. He concentrated on the vibrations of Jonelle's footsteps, the sound of the dragging of her tail, the strange pattern that was the way she walked. Then it stopped.
He sent out another burst of waves, and created another brief mental image in his head that he held in his inner vision. The blurry figure that was Jonelle was to his left. It helped that he could hear her claws clicking on the metal. He walked over, stopping after a few steps to make sure that he was on the right track with another radar check, and held his hands out until they touched the rusted metal of the ride. He took a deep breath and got on, situating himself with fumbling hands. He rubbed his temples slightly as he no longer felt the ground underneath his feet, the vibrations of the ants walking to their hill a few meters away, or the heavy man or woman that was repeatedly attempting to jump into his or her car. Or it was just jumping for no reason at all, but the former seemed more likely. He wasn't exactly pumped for this. Once they started moving, he would be totally blind. His radar wouldn't matter if he was hurtling this way and that. Great.
"Just tell me when we're about to go," he cheerily asked of Jonelle. "And don't blame me if I get a little sick." He grinned mischievously.

Jo smiled. "Alright, we're about to get started..." the ride started to slowly spin after the chains finally creaked and clunked into optimal position. "Barf down and towards the outside." she advised as the ride sped up, the music still blaring. The cars leaned to one side as the ride picked up speed. Up and down, around and around...over each bump Jo whooped. "Whee!" she shouted, clinging to the bar that rested on both of their laps. She laughed and laughed and the ride seemed to go on forever for her. She was a little dizzy, yes, but the adrenalin overrode that. It was just like it used to be, if only for a moment.

"Oh, dear," Ellis murmured to himself as the ride lifted off the ground, taking away all sense of the vibrations on the ground that helped him to "see." The fat man or woman seemed to have finally been able to squish him- or herself into the seat, and now the ride was starting up. Ellis tried to relax, but it was more than just a little unnerving starting to move through the air with no idea of where you're going, or what direction, or whether you're ten meters off the ground or one.
His hands were tightly gripping the bar that held them in as if it was his lifeline while they tilted and spun. He could feel his hair flying up with the wind, his mouth becoming dry as it was filled with air, the whistling of the wind across his ears being drowned out by the loud music that blared from the speakers somewhere to his left... right... left... front... oy...
Finally Ellis could feel the sensation of slowing down, as the ride started screeching to a stop. Their cars swung on the ride restlessly as it decelerated, as if urging it on forward to get some more action. Ellis was glad that the ride didn't seem to comply. He wanted to get back on the ground. The nice, unmoving ground.

Jonelle's smile had mostly dissipated to do with exhaustion, but it was still there, and the ear-to-ear smile she previously had could be seen in her eyes, and she felt that way too. "Oh, that was so fun!" she said. "Time to get off." She lifted the bar off and scared some other fair-goers away by detonating her head. "Heh heh...Where do you want to go next?" she asked, walking dizzily across the metal platforms. "There are so many rides here. I can't wait to try them all. But it's your choice now," she said, so happy she almost floated down the stairs onto the pavement fairground.

Ellis could feel Jonelle lift the bar and let his hands slide off the metal, stepping gratefully--but carefully--onto the ground. It felt good to feel the familiar vibrations of people walking by, of the bug that just dive-bombed into the ground (most likely fell, dead), and being still enough to send out a radar to give him a brief image of the world around him.
Woah. He'd just been on that? The ride looked like a monster! Judging by his experience, it was. He chuckled slightly and tried to shake the dizziness out of his head.
"My turn to choose, huh? You're going to stick with this blind bat? If it were truly my opinion, I'd pick the Merry-Go-Round." He paused for a second in thought, and laughed. "Wait, no I wouldn't. That one spins." He considered a few more rides in his head, and then suggested something else.
"How about bumper cars? Kinda tame, get to have a little rowdy fun. What do you say?"

"Sounds fun," said Jo. "There's a huge line, though." Jo began to walk towards the ride. "Then again, if we butt ahead, then I would scare the rest of the people off." Jo smiled. "A few advantages." This day is slowly getting better, she thought. I need to spend more time at the academy. It seems people there would be more accepting than normal people. Although there will probably be bullies, I'd easily be able to avoid them. The bumper cars were still quite a while away. "So, Ellis...what are your powers?" she asked, trying to make some conversation before they got to own normals in small cars.
